I wrote my first program at age 6. It played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on a piezoelectric speaker inside a VTech 1000 my father gave me for Christmas, 1988. By age 9 I was experimenting with sigmoidal transfer functions for multilayer perceptrons — trying to solve the XOR problem using sine waves. I didn’t know it at the time, but elsewhere in the world, full-grown academics were publishing papers on the same approach.
That was 38 years ago. I haven’t stopped since.
Over the course of my career I’ve worked across 32 programming languages, built thousands of websites, and designed systems touching nearly every domain of computer science — machine learning, natural language processing, digital signal processing, visual pattern recognition, robotics, genetic data encoding, and network security.
